Craig Powell

Attorney Craig Powell's practice is primarily devoted to criminal trial and appellate work in state and federal courts. Since joining Kohler & Hart in 2005, has helped the firm's clients secure jury acquittals and numerous dismissals before trial in a variety of felony and misdemeanor cases.

Craig is also actively involved in the firm's appellate practice and has represented clients in the Wisconsin Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. Craig's first appellate victory came as a law student in a case in which he successfully argued to the Court of Appeals that his client's conviction should be reversed because it was based only on his confession. Craig has continued to obtain good results for his appellate clients at Kohler & Hart where, most recently, he persuaded the Wisconsin Court of Appeals to reverse a lengthy prison sentence, which was subsequently cut in half by the trial court.

Craig earned his J.D. in 2005 from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he developed in his litigation skills through clinical work at the University of Wisconsin's Frank J. Remington Center. In recognition of his devotion to his clients, Craig was awarded the Bruce Beilfuss Memorial Scholarship. Prior to law school, Craig received his B.A in Journalism and English at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in 1998.

He is an active member of the criminal defense bar, and was recently invited to speak to aspiring trial lawyers at a seminar held at Marquette Law School. Craig is a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is licensed to practice law in Wisconsin state courts and in federal courts in Wisconsin and the Western District of Michigan.
