Dennis Brantner to be tried for murder of Berit Beck
On July 17, 1990, 18-year-old Sturtevant, Wisconsin resident Berit Beck left her home to go to Appleton for a work-related seminar. Unfortunately, Beck was abducted before she ever made it to her destination, and her vehicle was found without her inside a few days later.
Last Monday, June 13, almost 26 years after Beck was reported missing, 62-year-old Wisconsin truck driver Dennis Brantner will be tried for first-degree murder. In late May, Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Judge Gary Sharpe issued a gag order, prohibiting attorneys from talking about the case to the media. Milwaukee-based defense attorney Craig Powell said – before the gag order was issued – that the court was going to try the wrong man. Brantner insists that he did not kill Beck, but new sets of fingerprint evidence found in Beck’s van match Brantner’s.
