Milwaukee sentenced for fatal bar shooting

On Thursday, February 27 Phillip Green, 40, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for first-degree reckless homicide.

In May of 2013 Green shot and killed Ernest Banks, 26, during a bar fight. Witnesses confirmed that, though Banks started the fight, he was not armed.

Banks’ mother, brother, and wife asked Judge Jeffrey Wagner to give Green a maximum sentence of 40 to 45 years in prison. Despite their requests, Assistant District Attorney, Grant Huebner granted him 20-25 years in prison for having no previous criminal record, calling 911 after the shot was fired, and cooperating with the local authorities regarding the case.
