Former governor’s aide charged with embezzlement

A recent investigation by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office revealed fraud and embezzlement crimes committed by a former aide to Governor Scott Walker.

According to a complaint from the District Attorney’s Office, the aide is suspected of embezzling $21,000 from the Operation Freedom fund. The fund is used to help the families of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Another man is also accused of embezzling money from a charity involved with Operation Freedom, the Military Order of the Purple Heart. The suspect served on the Milwaukee County Veteran Service Commission and is believed to have stolen $42,000 from the charity.

The former aide faces 2 felony counts and 1 misdemeanor count of embezzlement, and the other fraud suspect is being charged with 1 count of embezzlement and 4 counts of fraudulent writings.
