Three Arrested in Milwaukee Cemetery Thefts
Milwaukee police say they have three people in custody in connection to a string of recent cemetery thefts.
The Milwaukee Police Department released a video Tuesday of a man and a woman taking brass vases from grave sites. Police say the couple and another woman used a stroller with a baby in it to hide the vases. The thefts were reported at St. Adalbert and Mt. Olivet cemeteries. Police say an anonymous tipster called with information after seeing surveillance footage on television.
More than 180 graves have been burglarized this year, police say. Officials for the department called the crime “despicable.” Police estimate that the stolen items are worth about $39,000. The vases can cost anywhere from $120 to $200.
The identities of the suspects is not available.
