Milwaukee Homicides Reach 2009 Total
The number of homicides recorded in Milwaukee this year have reached 2009’s total.
According to information from a Milwaukee Police Department database, the total number of homicides recorded in the city this year is 72, the same number that occurred in Milwaukee in all of 2009. In 2008, 71 people were killed in Milwaukee. The 2008 and 2009 homicide totals represent the lowest yearly totals for Milwaukee in the last 25 years.
Milwaukee averaged around 117 homicides per year between 1985 and 2008, according to police. The highest single-year total was in 1991 when 168 homicides occurred in the city.
The city’s total reached 72 over the weekend, when three people were killed in separate homicides, police say.
