Teen Arrested in Motorized Shopping Cart Theft

A teenager in Milwaukee was arrested after he stole a motorized shopping cart, police say.

According to officials with the Wauwatosa Police Department, 19 year-old Matthew Kawa was drinking at an Applebee’s Sunday evening when he saw the shopping cart in a parking lot. “I noticed I had too many drinks, and I couldn’t ride my bike home. So I got in the cart and kind of took that,” Kawa said.

Officers spotted Kawa heading east on State Street. When officers administered a breath test, Kawa registered a 0.1 percent, police say. The teen was charged with suspicion of theft after explaining  he planned to return the scooter in the morning.
