Brian Kinstler
Attorney Brian Kinstler has practiced with Kohler & Hart since 2001. As the firm's senior associate, Brian represents criminal defendants in Wisconsin state courts, and in federal courts in Wisconsin and elsewhere. His work includes a special focus on pre-trial motions practice, federal sentencing issues, and post conviction relief.
Brian's litigation skills have led to acquittals and dismissals in a wide range of trial-level cases, including homicides, sexual assaults, gun possession, and drug trafficking offenses. Brian is also the firm's lead appellate attorney, and he has obtained reversals in the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Brian received his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2000. As a law student, he served as case editor in the school's moot court program, worked as a law clerk with the Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of Iowa, and successfully tried criminal cases under the Iowa student practice rule.
Brian received a B.A. in Anthropology and English Literature from Rutgers University in 1989, and an M.A. in linguistics from the University of Iowa in 1996. Prior to law school, Brian was a graduate fellow in linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania
