Woman Leaves Newborn on Car

by Administrator 1. March 2010 06:05

A 19-year-old woman left her fifth child, a day-old newborn, on the hood of a neighbor's car. She was sentenced Friday to 90 days in the House of Correction and four years' probation. She delivered the child in her bedroom and shortly afterward anonymously called the authorities, saying she left a baby on a neighbor's porch. The next day, however, she put the baby in a diaper bag and left her on the hood of a neighbor's car.

The prosecuting attorney acknowledged that she had led a chaotic life and had been subjected to abuse and assault, but also said she should have been familiar with the child welfare system as a result. The woman gave up parental rights to her other four children, but she's working through Children's Court to regain full custody of the child she left on the neighbor's car.
