Milwaukee Council Asks for Tougher Gun Laws

by Administrator 4. November 2009 05:37

The Milwaukee Common Council has urged state lawmakers to adopt legislation that would make gun laws more strict.  The proposals have asked for lawmakers to do more to prevent former felons from possessing a gun.

Many are concerned with a former felon's ability to purchase guns through a process known as "straw buying".  The "straw buying" process involves an individual with a clean record purchasing a firearm for a felon.  This is currently a misdemeanor, however the council has asked for this practice to be made a felony.  A major reason for this is because several firearms were purchased with this method that have been used in a string of shootings.
