Deputies arrested Milwaukee Assistant Police Chief Edward Liebrecht early Thursday morning on suspicion of drunk driving. According to officials with the Milwaukee Police Department, officers were called to an accident near the intersection of South Clement Avenue and East Seeley Street shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday. Liebrecht had struck a tree with his car but was not injured. The Milwaukee Police Department requested the assistance of the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office in the investigation, to avoid any potential conflict of interest. The sheriff's investigation showed Liebrect appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested by deputies at the scene. Witnesses said it appeared that Liebrecht passed out onto the steering wheel of his vehicle after the crash. He was issued citations for Operating While Intoxicated - 1st Offense, Operating with a Prohibited Alcohol Concentration, and Unsafe Lane Deviation.
