Detroit Gang Leader Pleads Guilty

Andre Jones, age 28 and leader of a bank-robbery ring known as the AK-47 Bandits pleaded guilty in a federal court today. He is accused of planning or participating in 11 armed robberies, over the course of which he injured a bank teller and a Detroit police officer. He is facing nine charges of bank robbery, 10 charges of firearm-related offenses, and two charges of conspiracy. The penalty he faces is a mandatory 215 years in jail. He will be formally sentenced on December 17. Three other members of the AK-47 Bandits have also pleaded guilty and are awaiting their sentences. The last defendant, Jawan Martin, age 28, of Detroit, will be starting his trial on Thursday.
