A recent investigation by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office revealed fraud and embezzlement crimes committed by a former aide to Governor Scott Walker.

According to a complaint from the District Attorney's Office, the aide is suspected of embezzling $21,000 from the Operation Freedom fund. The fund is used to help the families of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Another man is also accused of embezzling money from a charity involved with Operation Freedom, the Military Order of the Purple Heart. The suspect served on the Milwaukee County Veteran Service Commission and is believed to have stolen $42,000 from the charity.

The former aide faces 2 felony counts and 1 misdemeanor count of embezzlement, and the other fraud suspect is being charged with 1 count of embezzlement and 4 counts of fraudulent writings.

The owner of multiple day care centers in Milwaukee was recently indicted on 16 counts of theft and wire fraud.

The 34-year old day care owner was indicted on similar charges in January involving the theft of about $5,000 from the Wisconsin food subsidy program and $24,000 from her child care centers. The woman plead not guilty to the charges and a trial is scheduled for next January.

The more recent charges accuse the woman of taking around $275,000 from state and federal child care programs.

Police began investigating the woman several years ago due to suspicious activity including building a luxury home with an indoor basketball court and pool and driving a Jaguar convertible.
