Yesterday,a 25-year-old man who shot two West Allis police officers was sentenced to 32 years in prison. The two officers were wounded in the August 2010 incident.

According to the criminal complaint, when the 25-year-old was in a stand off with police outside of his girlfriend's apartment, he shot one of the officers twice in the leg and the other once in the foot. One of the officers shot at the 25-year-old, hitting him in the chest and abdomen. After the incident, the man apologized, stating that he was not trying to kill anyone, but rather, he wanted police to kill him. Family members of the suspect said he had recently entered into a deep depression because his mother had committed suicide while in jail.

The 25-year-old plead guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide, last November. The man's jail sentence will be followed by 15 years of supervision.

Last week, the Milwaukee Police Department released a report on the city's 2011 crime statistics. According to the report, crime in the city is decreasing at a lower rate than it did when Police Chief Ed Flynn first took office. Last year, property and violent crimes decreased, while arson, theft, auto robbery, and burglary crimes increased.

The report also shows that, since Flynn became police chief in 2007, crimes in all but one of the eight areas of crime reported to federal officials reduced by more than 10 percent. Authorities say that auto thefts most likely increased because the price for scrap metal in the area also increased. Also, the increase in burglaries was linked to buildings abandoned in the foreclosure crisis.

Recently, Wisconsin State Representative Jim Ott introduced a bill that proposes making a third OWI offense a mandatory felony. Currently, people in Wisconsin are not charged with a felony until their fifth OWI. However, individuals who are charged with a fourth OWI within 5 years of their 3rd OWI offense will also face felony charges.

The proposed legislation would also make a sixth OWI and other subsequent OWI charges increase in felony category. Fines for each charge would also increase. An Oshkosh woman was recently charged with 31 counts of theft, forgery, and drug possession after she sold fake Facebook stock. The 46-year old woman told people that she had come into possession of $1 million of Facebook stock through her daughter, whom she claimed was friends with Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

For about 4 months before the company announced their IPO, the woman allegedly sold fake stock to several acquaintances, including a contractor working at her home, a vision-impaired Oshkosh man, and two others. The woman paid the contractor with about $13,980 in Facebook stock, and the contractor purchased an additional $10,000 worth of stock. He later admitted that he was skeptical about the transactions because the woman had lied about her own personal information in their papers.

The Oshkosh man paid the woman $43,000 for stock in the social networking website, but never received the stock certificates she promised to mail him. The woman also received about $9,900 from two other men interested in purchasing Facebook stock. While investigating the Oshkosh woman, police discovered that she was growing marijuana at her home, and also charged her with multiple drug crimes.

Today, the customer who shot an armed robbery suspect at an Aldi grocery store on Monday evening is meeting with Milwaukee prosecutors. The attempted armed robbery occurred at about 7 p.m. at W. Villard Ave. and N. 76th St.

Police arrested two suspects in the attempted robbery, one of whom was shot by a customer at the store who was carrying a handgun. According to witnesses, the injured suspect was pointing a shotgun at the store's cashiers.

The customer was asked to meet with prosecutors with the district attorney's office, but was not arrested after the incident. Reports suggest that the customer does have a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
