A 42-year-old former day care worker was sentenced Friday to a year in prison for breaking the arms of two children at a learning center in 2009. Once released from prison, she must remain under state supervision for another year. The two children both suffered spiral fractures in their arms, the result of severe twisting.

In one incident, she twisted the arms of a 4-month-old boy to make him stop crying. About a month later, she picked up a 22-month-old girl by the arms, reportedly to make her listen. She told police she wanted to send the girl a message of pain for refusing to wash her hands. She withdrew her guilty plea at an earlier hearing, then decided to leave her plea agreement intact.

A 33-year-old man driving the wrong way down a Milwaukee interstate ran head-on into another vehicle, seriously injuring two people. Police say he head-butted a deputy when confronted, later asking an officer if they could do drugs together. Court papers say his blood alcohol level was .276.

The driver was charged with battery to an officer and with two counts of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle. This is his third OWI offense, the previous one only a month ago. He is being held on more than $75,000 bail.

A 33-year-old Milwaukee man was charged with fatally shooting his 39-year-old cousin Tuesday. He faces charges of first-degree homicide.

They allegedly began arguing after the 39-year-old went to his cousin's house to pick up some documents. The 33-year-old went back into his house mid-argument, then returned to the street where they had squared off. The 33-year-old then pulled out a handgun and shot his cousin. The 39-year-old died at the scene.

Shortly after, the 33-year-old was arrested at his house after a short struggle with the police. If convicted, he could face prison for life.

New Land Enterprises, a Milwaukee developer, faces a foreclosure suit targeting three buildings.

The lawsuit claims that investors organized by Boris Gohkman and Walter Shuk defaulted on loans from a Madison-based bank. As of Jan. 22. the amount owed totaled $14.8 million, according to the suit, and public records show the combined assessed value of the properties is $9.8 million.

Gohkman was convicted for Medicaid fraud in 2004, and the firm has been sued for building defects multiple times, but that didn't slow down the company. This threat is a lot more serious, however, and could lead to the bank taking control of the three well-known properties.
