Violent Crimes Can Lead to Long Sentence

by Administrator 28. August 2009 07:25

If an individual commits a violent crime,  the prosecution typically goes for a harsh sentence.  This is to either set an example for others or to punish the individual for what could be a violent crime.  This has the unfortunate problem of lumping many assault crimes together.

Sometimes charges pressed against an individual in an assault case are not appropriate.  For example,  a simple bar fight that did not lead to any permanent or severe injuries should not be treated the same as an assault that goes on for minutes and causes permanent injuries. It is important that these distinctions are made to provide a fair trial.
