Charges Dropped in Bizarre Case

by Administrator 23. April 2008 07:04
Charges were dropped against the two men that were accused of wheeling their dead roommate throughout New York City in an attempt to cash his social security check. O'Hare and Daloia, the roommates, faced charges of criminal possession of a forged instrument in connection with the other charges. A Manhattan judge dismissed the charges after stating that it could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the man was dead when the roommates left their home with him. The medical examiner confirmed the decision, stating that the man died of natural causes and the time of death was unable to be determined. The two roommates argue that their friend and roommate was alive when they left their home and that they were given permission to cash the check inorder to pay for their shared monthly expenses. Ex-Mayor Cleared of Charges

by Administrator 10. April 2008 04:04
The former mayor of Taylortown, North Carolina, was recently cleared of three misdemeanor charges. Thirteen months ago, Ulysses S.G. Barrett Jr. was charged with fraud, holding two public offices at one time, and profiting from a public contract as a public official. Barrett Jr.'s work as an unlicensed contractor led to the charges after he began work on a house that the town owns that was going to be used for after school programs. The cost of the work to be done was close to $29,000. Acquitted of the fraud charge, Barrett Jr. was lucky enough to have the other two charges dismissed. There is, however, a continuting investigation as to his work as an unlicensed contractor. If you have been accused of a crime and need an experienced attorney on your side, call a Milwaukee criminal defense lawyer from Kohler & Hart at 888-565-7597 today.

Caffeine and Alcohol: A Dangerous Mix

by Administrator 2. April 2008 08:04
Energy drinks have become overwhelmingly popular over the last decade. Promising to stimulate the senses and provide drinkers with the energy they need to get through the day, energy drinks often contain high levels of sugar and caffeine. Although this may appeal to those who need a daily boost in energy, the consequences of consuming large amounts of energy drinks may be dangerous. Even more alarming is the recent trend of mixing energy drinks with alcohol. While everyone understands that excessive amounts of alcohol may be dangerous, you may not realize that drinking cocktails that contain energy drinks may prove fatal. The caffeine present in most energy drinks dulls the effects of alcohol, causing a person to feel less impaired than they may actually be. This may have serious consequences as drinkers believe that they are sober enough to have another drink or two or sober enough to get behind the wheel, leading to DUI charges and possible injuries. Although the FDA has yet to investigate the true nature of energy drinks, an increasing number of DUI cases related to the consumption of energy drink/alcohol cocktails should grab their attention. If you or a loved one has been charged with a DUI and believe that you were unable to recognize your intoxication level due to the mixture of energy drinks and alcohol, the bar or energy drink manufacturer may be responsible for your charges.
