Interference with Public Duties
If any person decides to interrupt or disrupt certain officials who work with the public or the equipment that those officials work with, he or she can be charged with interference with public duties. Authorities take these interruptions very seriously and are intolerant of such acts.
If a police officer is performing his or her duties and the actor purposefully disrupts an operation, he or she can be charged with interference with public duties. This can include acts such as striking an officer, giving false information in the middle of an officer’s operation, or simply physically being in the way with the intent of impending an officer’s duties.
The same charges can be placed on someone interfering with the operations of medical personnel. Interrupting someone rendering aid can have dire consequences to a patient, therefore the same charges apply. If the actor intentionally causes an accident with an emergency vehicle or becomes physically aggressive with personnel, he or she can be charged.
If a firefighter is performing his or her duties as a firefighter including investigating a fire and the actor disrupts the procedures of the firefighter, the actor can be charged. If an actor knows that an animal belongs to a police officer and he or she performs an act of interference between the animal and its duties, the actor can be charged. Charges can also be brought against those who interfere with the communication transmission of an emergency line.
